Here are the main points to note when dealing with the police :-)

1: If you are suspected by police of a criminal offence you may be
detained for up to 6 hours.

2: You are not obliged to say anything other than your name and
    address.

3: The police must either release or charge you within 6 hours of the
    start of detention.

4: You will be cautioned that anything you may be taken down and used
    against you.

5: It is often best to say nothing but your name and address.

6: You should know the name, address and telephone numbers for your
solicitor. You are entitled to have the police advise him/her of
your position and you will be allowed to visit at any rate before
you have to appear in court.
7: You are entitled to demand to see a solicitor before you are
    charged.

8: After you are charged you may be released and received a postal
notice for you to attend court at a later date.

9: If you are not released you will be taken before the first available
custody court which usually takes place each week day excepting
    important public holidays.

10: Remember, when dealing with the police it is important that you
don`t lose your temper. It will not help if you do.
