|1-is on the move

If you are already subscribed on the blitz list then you'll know all
this already and can safely ignore all of this article, although you may
want to go over the commands towards the end.

If you program in Blitz Basic then you will probably have heard of the
Blitz List, the mythical forum where all Blitzers with E-Mail chat to
each other all day about coding problems.

The Blitz-List is a script-based service running on a server, usually
located in a university. You E-Mail the service and that E-Mail will be
passed out to everyone else who subscribes to that list. This way you
get to see what everyone's talking about and can offer your experise as
well as pool everyone else's.

There are also commands that can be sent to the actual server to tell it
to do something for you, for example to subscribe you to a certain list,
give you a list of all the people on a certain list, or give you a list
of all the available lists. Confusing? The Blitz List is a single area
where people chat about Blitz, there are other areas where people talk
about other things.

Because of the design of the lists, it's a lot like reading a newsgroup
but without the software. All you need is E-Mail access and you're
away, and E-Mail can be gotten for free these days if you have a PC.

Anyway, the list is now on the move, from now on it is to be maintained
by Daire Byrne, an administrator for NetSOC in Ireland, so full marks to
him for taking it on. To instruct the server, the new address is:

                    blitz-list-request@netsoc.ucd.ie

and whereas commands were previously entered into the body text, they
are now entered into the Subject area. Thus, to tell the server to send
you a list of all the commands, simply send a normal E-Mail with the
subject as "help". A full list of commands is given below.

To get something published in the Blitz-List, either as a reply to a
query or a request of your own, the address is:

                        blitz-list@netsoc.ucd.ie

...anything that you mail to here will be sent to everyone else on the
blitz list, and vice versa. This may also mean that you'll receive some
messages back from yourself from time to time (at least it used to), and
from the moment you subscribe to the list, mail will start trickling in
from all over the world, you can expect 10 or more a day at least.

Here's a full list of the commands that the server supports. Remember
that you must mail them to blitz-list-request@netsoc.ucd.ie with your
command in the Subject area:
