I was recently talking to a group of Amiga users using my modem and
Amiga, and of course the wonderful program AMIRC, when the topic in view
generated into what's a good programming language ? Now I've used
around ten different program languages and have my own opinion on all of
them, most of the people chatting away were saying how wonderful 'C'
was, and others saying real men don't use 'C' only assembler and other
funny things. Now not being serious just for fun I type in "I love Amos
Pro", now to my amazement the response became very big......

Several people started insulting me, and of course Amos, saying its the
biggest pile of shit anyone could use to write any program. Now I
didn't really reply, but I just sat back and watched my screen fill with
absurd comments. Now after the a while, I logged off, had my dinner,
then started to think about all the comments they made, so anyway heres
my verdict.

Now AMOS PRO may be only capable of handling non AGA applications, non
intuition (amiga operating tasks), but without AMOS where I say would
the Amiga be today ? Now we all now the Amiga isn't having its best
days, In fact its probably been dragged through more disputes than any
other computer on the Mkt place. But how has it got this far and why
does it continue to still breath ? Well I would say AMOS played a big
role in it. The success and the continuing success relies on the users
of the Amiga who demand it still to be around, a couple of years ago
when I would say Public Domain was at its peaks, the majority of
programs developed were in AMOS, OK they weren't Workbench utils/hacks/
or even good demos, but they were was dedication from home users showing
there abilities off with a relatively easy to get to grips with
programming language - AMOS. Not only has Amos proved itself with most
users to create if not something spectacular but at least some form of
achievement, but also allowed the Amiga community to be drawn together
with a pool of resources. Now presently AMOS isn't as big as what it
use to be, with packages like Blitz Basic, E, and others all allowing
Workbench friendly programs to be created, but just remember where it
all began ! AMOS is very outdated and most of the stuff produced from
it usually cack, one thing is to remember.... Don't blame AMOS, blame
the user who's programming with it ! Take a look around at some of the
Amiga's titles created with AMOS, now for example THE WORD by NFA, isn't
this a prime example, superbly coded to produce a top looking
professional package, but how many people said NO WAY AMOS, when they
found out the WORD was created using it ? Well this just goes to, that
AMOS is more than capable of producing professional titles, all it takes
is a competent user.

Now if your still in doubt, how about Valhalla, became a top selling
game, written in AMOS. Jetstrike, again written in AMOS. Some of the
best coded sideshows - AMOS. Do I have to go further ?

Well is AMOS still shite, or are there a lot of incompetent users that
need a reality check, that Amos maybe easy to knock up a simple program,
but quality AMOS programs can be produced,it just takes perseverance,
but not the amount required from assembler ! he he !

$C9F
If you still feel Amos is waste of space and time, I guess you better
reset your amiga, and delete the Word of your system !
